about the band

The Old Parrot Band has been playing for ceilidhs and concerts around Lincolnshire and beyond since 1981. We have our own PA as well as a lighting system to cover both the band and dancing area. Eddie our sound and lighting engineer makes sure that all is well and provides suitable background music for the half-time break. If you prefer your own music and have a CD handy, he'll be happy to oblige.

Robin, our regular caller will liaise with the organiser and sort out any breaks for food, raffles and speeches. If a guest wants to perform a party piece or say a few words, Robin will offer him or her the chance! He is used to choosing dances to suit the evening; for example if there are children present, he will make sure that some of the dances are geared to their ability. His aim is dancing with the emphasis on fun, so it doesn't matter if ceilidhs are new to you. His energy and enthusiasm will ensure that your night is a success!

The band plays with an irresistible toe-tapping style which is guaranteed to entice you to the dance floor. The tunes are both traditional and self-penned, but they are all played with a driving beat to urge the dancing along.

The band has been in the recording studio on three occasions. The first was to record on vinyl (yes, we've been going that long!) The other two sessions resulted in CDs containing self-penned songs and tunes with a Lincolnshire flavour.

The Old Parrot Band's CD 'In Between The Dances' comprises 14 original songs about our fair county. Where else would you find songs dedicated to the Fenland climate, its village halls, a cork tree hundreds of miles from home, Ron Diggins, inventor of Britain's first discotheque and the RAF's World War 2 Lancaster bomber?
The Parrots' most recent visit to the studio resulted in the 12 track album 'The Swing Bridge'. There are plenty of Lincolnshire references including Skegness, Spalding's Flower Parade and Bourne's Raymond Mays, founder of the BRM racing team.
